ENGLISH - Rowdy and Arnold Friendship 2018

Rowdy is Arnold’s only real friend outside of his family. Rowdy and Arnold are not
accepted into community very much and are treated as miss fits. Miss fits meaning
Rowdy was born angry and Arnold was born with multiple brain problems. Not
many people really accepted them apart from each other. Rowdy was the toughest
kid on the res and Arnold was a big target for bullying. He would think of himself as
‘the most available loser’. Arnold felt safe with rowdy. Rowdy was his protector.
They are so close that Rowdy even shared his comics with him. Rowdy didn’t like
to tell anyone about them because he was scared of being teased for not being into the
most boy things. Rowdy and Arnolds friendship is important because they can share
things with each other that they couldn’t share safely anyway else.

Towards the end of the novel their friendship returns after much conflict. After Arnold
Jr moved to from Wellpinit to Reardan, Mary's death and the final basketball game
between the two schools their friendship came back together. Rowdy may have been
bored but he missed what he had with Arnold and what he really meant to him. Arnold
asked Rowdy to come to Reardon with him. Rowdy declined saying how he was
reading a book that reminded him of Arnold. It was about nomads who move around
in search of new things.  ‘I'm not nomadic’ rowdy said. ‘Hardly anyone on this rez
is nomadic. Except for you. You’re the nomadic one’. Since reservations no one
really moves anymore. Well apart from Arnold. He’s the difference. Rowdy didn’t
want to rob him of that. There’s a new found acceptance from each other that wasn’t
there before.

ENGLISH Sewell Peak Experience

The walk up Sewell peak was exactly what I was expecting it to be like. My goals were to be one of the first people up there and to not get annoyed at people and be patient. I achieved one of these. I walked up with Grace and we came in the top 10 and the first girls. The other goal I set, I didn't think I was going to achieve based on how I act but I'm still really proud of everything else I did. The reason behind Mr England wanting use to do that is about NCEA and aspects of life. NCEA is the mountain and by climbing it and making our way over the hills or bumps we are making it to the top and to a view we have never seen before. To have this feeling of satisfaction and triumph after a huge accomplishment. And to see how grateful we should be for the town we have and to get a new perspective of it.
