ENGLISH Sewell Peak Experience

The walk up Sewell peak was exactly what I was expecting it to be like. My goals were to be one of the first people up there and to not get annoyed at people and be patient. I achieved one of these. I walked up with Grace and we came in the top 10 and the first girls. The other goal I set, I didn't think I was going to achieve based on how I act but I'm still really proud of everything else I did. The reason behind Mr England wanting use to do that is about NCEA and aspects of life. NCEA is the mountain and by climbing it and making our way over the hills or bumps we are making it to the top and to a view we have never seen before. To have this feeling of satisfaction and triumph after a huge accomplishment. And to see how grateful we should be for the town we have and to get a new perspective of it. It was basically a metaphor for next year and the years coming after that about perseverance and determination. I feel like in ways I did have this realisation of a few things th

Firsts Paragraphs ENGLISH 2018

My focus was to find out who the first person to be legally executed by electric chair was. Before researching the topic I knew a little bit about it, but both of these sites opened my mind to new knowledge about my chosen topic that I would never of known before such as the prison, who came up with the idea and the work that went into making and testing the chair to see if it was efficient. My 2 sources were history.com and wikipedia . I was interested in this topic because i’ve watched a few death row documentaries and it’s fascinating to me because we don’t have the death penalty so it just shows me another side to how other countries run their criminal system. The first source, history.com provided quality and descriptive information surrounding my question. It indicated to me where the execution happened, how the chair was manufactured and details around whose idea it was and the amount of volts used. The site discussed the actual inmate William Kemmler, who g

ENGLISH - The power of friendship

Look again at Miguel's speech in The Freedom Writers.  What does friendship mean to Miguel? "This summer was the worst summer in my short 14 years of life. "It all started with a phone call. "My mother was crying and begging, "asking for more time as if she were gasping for her last breath of air. "She held me as tight as she could and cried. "Her tears hit my shirt like bullets and told me we were being evicted. "She kept apologizing to me. I thought, 'I have no home. "'I should have asked for something less expensive at Christmas. ' "On the morning of the eviction, a hard knock on the door woke me up. "The sheriff was there to do his job. "I looked up at the sky, waiting for something to happen. "My mother has no family to lean on, no money coming in. "Why bother coming to school or getting good grades if I'm homeless? "The bus stops in front of the school. I feel like throwing up. "

ENGLISH Reflecting on Freedom Writers

Watch this clip where Ava talks about her early experiences with violence and the police and why she has to support her family.  Then watch this clip where Ava is in court and has to make the hard decision - will she lie to protect her family and her people, or will she tell the truth and risk her family abandoning her?  Now you can either write down, or record your thoughts on screencastify: Describe Ava and her early experiences. Explain why she changed throughout the movie and told the truth at the court case. Ava at an early age was very innocent and naive but once her neighbour was shot right in front of her and she was really brought into the big bad world of violence and gangs. Once the police came around her mum was a wreck as her dad were being arrested in her home. Since then she has fallen into the path her family has taken since they were teenagers. Well, until Miss Grewal started teaching her and showed her what the world could be and that the worl

ENGLISH - Rowdy and Arnold Friendship 2018

Rowdy is Arnold’s only real friend outside of his family. Rowdy and Arnold are not accepted into community very much and are treated as miss fits. Miss fits meaning Rowdy was born angry and Arnold was born with multiple brain problems. Not many people really accepted them apart from each other. Rowdy was the toughest kid on the res and Arnold was a big target for bullying. He would think of himself as ‘the most available loser’. Arnold felt safe with rowdy. Rowdy was his protector. They are so close that Rowdy even shared his comics with him. Rowdy didn’t like to tell anyone about them because he was scared of being teased for not being into the most boy things. Rowdy and Arnolds friendship is important because they can share things with each other that they couldn’t share safely anyway else. Towards the end of the novel their friendship returns after much conflict. After Arnold Jr moved to from Wellpinit to Reardan, Mary's death and the final basketball game b
